HYNETT
WILLIAM HYNETT OBE
I started out my career with the Fleet Air Arm. As a naval aviator I served with 800 Naval Air Squadron in HMS Invincible, completing operational tours in Bosnia, Iraq and Kosovo, during which time I was both day and night deck qualified.
On returning to 899 Naval Air Squadron at RNAS Yeovilton, I became a Radar and Tactics Instructor before being made Flight Commander of the Sea Harrier Operational Evaluation Unit. I served concurrently as the fleet Maintenance Test Pilot.

After the Royal Navy I moved into industry in both defence and aerospace. Since 2003 I have served as Chief Executive and Accountable Manager of Britten-Norman, manufacturing the internationally renowned Islander, short-sector, STOL, commuter aircraft and its long loiter, government operations derivative, the Defender. In due course this portfolio will include a new hydrogen-electric powered variant.
At the same time I serve as an Executive Director in a number of smaller businesses in the UK and overseas, including Chewton Glen Aviation & Marine, where my son Will Hynett (Jr) is a fellow director.
Aviation has been part of my life since my childhood and has been a keen hobby in adult life. In addition to display flying, I have also completed a large number of intercontinental military and general aviation ferry flights, many with my father, Maurice Hynett. We also own a Yak 52 which remains in the heritage livery of RN Aero Club, of which he and I were founding members.
I am currently a Fellow of the Royal Aeronautical Society and the Institute of Directors. I was invested into the Order of the British Empire at Windsor Castle in 2011 for services to the defence industry.
